Frequently asked questions
What can I expect?
After payment and formalities, you can expect friendly service and help from your guide who will start the day with introductions, basic skills and safety information. She will then give launching instruction and will help you settle into the double sea kayaks.
Once on the water, you will 'raft up' for an introduction to the river and Karakia to the Guardians to see you ready for the journey.
Expect to enjoy the scenery including native fauna and flora, listen to information from your knowledgeable guide such as Indigenous ways of life, colonial history and learn more about the Christchurch earthquake; the destruction and the rebuild.
You will be expected to kayak at an easy - medium pace but rest assured that we have regular story times not kayaking, and one break off the water for Te Toru Nui and City to Estuary tours, and two breaks off the water for the City to Sea tour.
It is not normal to get very wet and if careful, shoes usually stay dry also. It is not normal to tip a kayak either as they are reasonably stable, however, please take care! At the end of the trip, please help you guide unpack the kayaks and load them onto the trailer, we will then take you back to the start point of the tour.
Can I purchase Gift Vouchers?
Yes we have Gift Vouchers available for both tours. Message through your request and we'll get you a voucher, email firstname.lastname@example.org
